The Proteas have released Faf du Plessis from their squad for the upcoming ODI series against England.
The former national captain, who retired from Test cricket earlier this year, is rested after a busy spell which saw him compete in the recent T20I series against England and in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Chennai Super Kings.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Thursday announced a number of amendments to the Proteas squad for the three-match ODI series, which starts at Newlands on Friday.
As was earlier announced, fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has left the Proteas bio-bubble to begin rehabilitation after sustaining a right-adductor strain.
Pite van Biljon, Reeza Hendricks and Bjorn Fortuin have also been released to their respective franchises to compete in the ongoing 4-Day Franchise Series.
